What's The Best Pub In Bow And Mile End?

Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 16.07.02Our monthly pub poll heads east along the A11, to the areas of Mile End and Bow. Live round there? Drink round there? Then we want your opinions on the best places to go drinking.

The poll will be open for a few days, then we'll tally up the winners and organise a pub crawl around the top few.

The leading pubs will make it into our Best Pubs in London microsite.

Here’s how to play:

  1. Let us know (in the comments below, on Facebook, or by tweeting #BestMileEndPub) your favourite pubs in the area.
  2. We’ll tally up the votes at the end of the week and publish the results.
  3. We’ll then arrange a pub crawl around the most popular choices. You’re welcome to join us.
  4. You can nominate anywhere that might generally be considered reasonable on a Bow/Mile End pub crawl. We’re not going to define a boundary — just use common sense.
  5. By ‘pubs’, we’re using a shorthand — you can also vote for bars with some kind of pubbish character.
  6. You can nominate more than one place. All nominations count as one vote, whether you rank them or not. Likes on Facebook and retweets of someone else’s vote are also counted as new votes.
  7. Venues should be open to the public with no pre-booking, entry fee or membership required.

So, where shall we go?

The White Hart Brewpub gets a vote. One Mile End beers all the days!

The Palm Tree

The Coburn Arms

The Lord Tredegar

I seem to recall the Morgan Arms being quite pleasant. (And I would propose the Palm Tree, but it might not be the friendliest destination for a pub crawl.)

The Bow Bells gets my vote. About as 'proper' a pub as you're going to find in zones 1 & 2

The Lord Tredegar. Would have voted for the Victoria before they changed it into an ice-cream parlour.

The Galvaniser's Union. It's just about still in E3.

Ben Williams

Lord Tredegar & Morgan Arms, Eleanor Arms used to be the place for beardy beer types but its range is a bit shabby now that craft beers have invaded other pubs in Bow. That gin distillery for a quick loosener?

The Palm Tree - nowhere else like it.

East End Liquour Company, Bow Wharf, and possibly the Eleanor Arms for the friendly bar staff and human juke box, but haven't been back since last summer.

1) The Lord Tredegar (recently refurbished old east end boozer, good food, good beer).
2) The Coborn Arms (actual east end boozer)
3) The Palm Tree (like a trip back in time to the 80's, bit over-hyped and overpriced but you can sit by the canal in the summer)

The Victoria would have made the list, but recent refurb by a pubco has ruined all that was good about the old, reassuringly pretentious dive.

Lord Tredegar - especially their garden when it's sunny.
