For Your Commute

When we heard whispers last summer that Epsom was thinking about leaving Surrey and joining the ranks of London proper, it got us thinking: which other towns could (0r should) be subsumed by London?

Things To Do

Creative couple Charlotte and Philip talk at the Museum of Curiosities

VICTORIAN OBSESSION: It’s rare that masterpieces return to the place of their making, but this is the case with 52 magnificent and rarely seen works of Victorian art currently on display at the home of Frederic Lord Leighton. The exhibition has now been extended until 6 April — but that still only gives you a couple of weeks to catch this ★★★★★ exhibition. £10/£6, prebook, until 6 April

VICTORIAN HOMELESS: The Geffrye Museum opens a new exhibition today about the places the poor inhabited in Victorian London, bringing them to life through paintings, photographs and objects, as well as through personal stories and reports. £5/£3, until 12 July

SKIPPY THE KANGAROO: Tying in with the current Strange Creatures exhibition, Grant Museum of Zoology screens back-to-back episodes of Skippy The Bush Kangaroo. For adults. Free, just turn up, 6.30pm

BLOOMSBURY SET: Virginia Woolf expert Frances Spalding is in conversation with Priya Parmar, author of Vanessa and Her Sister, a new book about Vanessa Bell and her sister (who was Woolf). £6-£20, prebook, 6.30pm

MAGAZINE INDUSTRY: Head to The Book Club in Shoreditch to hear independent magazine publishers speak about their chosen medium, ranging from artisanal limited editions to data-driven newsprint. £5, prebook, 6.30pm

CREATIVE COUPLES: Charlotte and Philip Colbert are at the Museum of Curiosities to chat to the museum’s fashion director Amber Butchart. The creative couple's work collectively spans areas from photography to music and fashion. Philip was dubbed “the Godson of Andy Warhol” by Andre Leon Talley and Vogue referred to Charlotte as “A truly original visual storyteller". £5/£10, prebook, 7pm

CHARITY CONCERT: Former Royal Harpist and WaterAid ambassador Catrin Finch hosts a special evening of world music at Nell's Jazz and Blues Club to mark World Water Day. Expect a night of folk, Eastern European roots and classical music. Proceeds from the evening go towards WaterAid's work. £20, prebook, 7pm

LIVE MUSIC: Scottish singer-songwriter Eddi Reader, who began her career with soft rock/folk band Fairground Attraction and has been awarded an MBE, performs solo at Cecil Sharp House in Camden. £22.50, prebook, 7.30pm

NORDIC FOOD: Barnsbury Hall in Islington is transformed into an exclusive woodland restaurant for one night only, with guests sampling wild venison, vasterbottenost cheese and an array of other delicious delicacies over five courses. £38, prebook, 7.30pm

MAY DAY: Bishopsgate Institute hosts an evening about May Day, a 1930s novel by John Sommerfield based around a strike in east London, and a subsequent protest march into the West End.  Alex Gordon, president of the RMT at the time of May Day’s republication, and Brian Denny, journalist and editor at the RMT union, discuss Sommerfield’s novel. £9/£7, prebook, 7.30pm

FREE WILL: There's an Open Salon at Barbican, and it's getting theological. The event questions whether we really have free will, and marks the launch of new book Freedom Regained, by philosopher Julian Baggini. £15, prebook, 7.30pm

COMEDY: Canadian songstress Mae Martin tests out new songs and gags at Invisible Dot in King’s Cross. £6/£5, prebook, 9.15pm

Good Cause of the Day
