Things To Do

The future of the Arctic is under discussion at British Library

STRANGE CREATURES: Grant Museum of Zoology’s new exhibition Strange Creatures explores the world of animal representations, centred on the painting of a kangaroo by George Stubbs — Europe’s first image of an Australian animal. Free, until 27 June

CULTURAL MISFITS: Gresham College hosts a lecture at Museum of London about gender misfits in 20th century literature.  Free, just turn up, 1pm

LAYDEEZ DO COMICS: The monthly female-led graphic novel forum is back at Foyles on Charing Cross Road. Tonight’s guests are comic artists Karrie Fransman, Liesl and John Swogger, and Owen Pomery. Men and women welcome. Free, prebook, 6pm

ARCTIC FUTURE: The British Library hosts a panel debate about the challenges and opportunities arising from increases in Arctic activity as a new environment emerges. Chaired by Professor Klaus Dodds, the panel includes Alan Kessel (Deputy High Commissioner for Canada), Ed Heartney (Counsellor for the Environment, Science, Technology and Health issues at US Embassy London), Lord Teverson  and scientist Dr Gabrielle Walker. £10/£7, prebook, 6.30pm

MARINE WILDLIFE: Café Scientifique at the Royal Society is led by Emma Carroll, who studies the behaviour and gene patterns of marine animals. Populations of marine animals, like whales and dolphins, rely on the transmission of behaviours from their parents and peers, and localised extinction can make the passing on of this knowledge difficult. Free, prebook, 6.30pm

RUSSIAN FILM CLUB: Pushkin House in Bloomsbury Square, the home of Russian culture in London screens Sergei Eisenstein’s 1925 film Battleship Potemkin, which focuses on a naval mutiny in the Black Sea during the 1905 revolution. Free, just turn up, 6.30pm

NIGHT SAFARI: Natural History Museum hosts an evening event exploring the trials, tribulations and wonders of parenting in the natural world. Choose between the Chrysalis Tour or the Nymph Tour, led by museum scientists, and see behind-the-scenes specimens. £40, prebook, 6.30pm

COMEDY: Lou Sanders and Jessica Fostekew are working out new material at Aces and Eights in Tufnell Park. Two hours of comedy, and because there might be some referring to notes and stuff, it’ll cost you nowt. Free, prebook, 7.30pm

FINGER KNITTING: Have a go at finger knitting at this workshop at Doodle Bar in Battersea. Turn your old t-shirts into chunky accessories, such as bracelets and necklaces (bring your own t-shirt, other materials provided). £15, prebook, 7.30pm

TOTALLY SHERLOCK: The curators of Museum of London's  Sherlock Holmes exhibition talk about their favourite objects in the exhibition, and what they learnt while curating it. £30, prebook, 7.30pm

Good Cause of the Day
