In recent years there's been a spate of London transport documentaries, going behind the scenes of the Underground, Crossrail, and the capital's roads. Tonight the latest series of this genre begins; Double Decker Driving School shows what it takes to become a bus driver in London.

Transport for London (TfL) and Arriva London have joined forces to make the six-part series, which screens on ITV. Cameras follow trainee drivers at Arriva’s bus driving schools as they negotiate a rigorous six-week course. TfL's managing director of surface transport Leon Daniels, said:

“London buses are internationally recognised icons, but they of course owe their fame to the men and women who expertly pilot them through our busy streets.  These programmes show how tough it is to be a bus driver in London and how much effort goes in to ensuring the safety and comfort of our customers."

The series is filmed at Arriva's South Norwood and Edmonton bus garages. Following BBC documentary The Route Masters, which aired in 2013 (and featured trainee bus drivers), it'll be interesting to see what new angles Double Decker Driving School brings to the table.

Double Decker Driving School starts tonight on ITV at 8.30pm.
