NEW EXHIBITION: Stour Space in Tower Hamlets unveils a solo exhibition of recent figurative paintings by Hackney-based artist David Caines. The pieces bring together unlikely groups of curious and seemingly unrelated characters. Until 2 March

FASHION EXHIBITION: Fashion and Textile Museum's latest exhibition, Thea Porter: 70s Bohemian Chic, opens today. It's the first ever exhibition of the fashion and interior design work of Porter, who pioneered bohemian chic from her shop in Soho. £8.80, prebook, until 3 May

SHOW ‘N’ TELL: UCL PhD student Simon Maddock has chosen one object from Grant Museum of Zoology’s collection to talk about. He’ll also be talking about his research using cutting edge DNA sequencing and CT scanning on the evolutionary relationship between reptiles and amphibians on the tropical islands of the Seychelles. CRIME SCENE LIVE: Natural History Museum's late night event lets visitors become crime scene investigators and work with museum experts to solve a murder mystery. Detect illegal animal trade with forensic zoology, examine maggot evidence with forensic entomologists, and use forensic palynology (no, we're not sure either) to analyse pollen from the victim’s nasal cavity. 18+. £60/£54, prebook, 6.30pm

MUSEUM LATE: London Transport Museum in Covent Garden stays open late for an event marking the end of the Goodbye Piccadilly exhibition.
