Nutty For Nutella: Where To Eat (And Drink) It In London

Thursday 5 February (that’s tomorrow) is World Nutella Day. Yes, really. For the uninitiated, it’s been going since 2007 and is run by a pair of die-hard fans rather than the brand itself.

Seeing the long list of bizarre days and weeks that exist — we’re in the middle of London Pisco Sour Week, and London Beer Week is coming soon — the pair decided that the chocolate spread deserved one too.

Perhaps it’s because we’re a bit nutty, but we thought it was an excellent excuse to highlight London’s bars and restaurants which are equally silly for the spread, using it in creative, barmy and often sickly concoctions from cocktails and crêpes to pizzas and bakes...

Nutella martini at Christopher's

The cocktails...

Christopher’s
Grand Covent Garden bar and restaurant Christopher’s has strong American influences and majors in steaks and martinis. The extensive martini list includes a ‘decadent’ section where you’ll find the Nutella Martini, made with vanilla-infused vodka, crème de cacao, cream and shaved chocolate as well as the chocolate spread in question. We are yet to try one.
Christopher’s, 18 Wellington Street, WC2E 7DD

The Diner
This US-styled diner chain has branches across town, and serves an Oreo milkshake at all of them. It features vanilla ice-cream, Nutella and malt, and comes with the option of adding a shot of your choice to create a hard shake. We’d give bourbon a go.

The pizzas...

B Soho
Desserts at this pizza and cocktail joint on Poland Street include Pizza Alla Nutella, which is folded over a little like a calzone and then dusted with icing sugar — just in case it wasn’t sweet enough already.
B Soho, 21 Poland Street, W1F 8QG

Nutella pizza at B Soho

Basilico
There are 11 branches of this pizza delivery company across London, covering much of the city. Dessert options include a thin-crust pizza spread with Nutella and topped with sliced strawberries and crumbled hazelnuts. Only the base is cooked.

Flambée
This street food outfit, currently residing in Shoreditch’s Catch, takes its name from the thin-based French ‘pizzas’ they serve. While mains are based on either smoked salmon, lardons or pulled pork, pudding is all about a combination of Nutella and Maltesers. Probably best you save some room for that one.
Flambée @ Catch Bar, 22 Kingsland Road, E2 8DA

Pizza Pilgrims
Street food stars turned restaurateurs, Pizza Pilgrims have a Nutella and salted ricotta pizza on the menu at their branches on both Dean Street and Kingly Street in Soho.
Pizza Pilgrims, various locations

Pizza Union
Set in Spitalfields, Pizza Union complements more traditional offerings with a warm, puffy dough ring filled with Nutella and mascarpone. There’s also a salted caramel version available.
Pizza Union, 25 Sandy’s Row, E1 7HW

The crêpes...

Café Boheme
Breakfast at this Soho bar and eatery comes with the oh-so French option of crêpes with Nutella, while free copies of Le Monde and other journaux Français are available on the side.
Café Boheme, 17 Old Compton Street, W1D 5JQ

Reverend JW Simpson
There’s no Nutella in the cocktails at this Goodge Street drinks haunt from the Bourne + Hollingsworth team, but it does make it into the snacks. Of a Monday night, the menu includes a number of drinks matched with bites inspired by childhood after-school snacks. Though by the sounds of it not of the type that either Jamie Oliver or the government would approve of.  An Azula, made with Zubrowka vodka, blueberry syrup, lemon juice, mint, apple juice and soda, is paired with a warm crêpe filled with Nutella and sliced banana (£10 all in).
Reverend JW Simpson, 32 Goodge Street, W1T 2QJ

The bakes...

Nutella duffin at Bea's of Bloomsbury

Bea’s Of Bloomsbury
It’s possible you’ll know the duffin due to the #Duffingate twitter storm that whirled around the internet the October before last. Bakery owner Bea Vo created this hybrid between a doughnut and a muffin and featured it in her recipe book, only for it then to appear in Starbucks. The cretinous coffee chain lost a subsequent lawsuit and no longer sells them, but Bea Vo does at her shops in Farringdon, Bloomsbury and St Paul’s. They’re available filled either with jam or Nutella.
Bea’s of Bloomsbury, various locations

Beigel Bake
We all know about the mighty salt beef or smoked salmon. But were you aware that this Brick Lane classic also offers Nutella bagels?
Beigel Bake, 159 Brick Lane, E1 6SB

Tonda
New Portobello Italian restaurant Tonda (the first UK branch of an Italian mini-chain) specialises in pizzettas, small crisp pizzas. Alongside these, they serve sweet Italian cornetto filled with Nutella.
Tonda, 233 Portobello Road, W11 1LT

Spiaggia
On the menu at this quirky Fulham restaurant themed around an Italian beach are piadine. They’re effectively thin Italian flatbreads with varying fillings, including salami and mozzarella. At the sweeter end of the spectrum you’ll find the so-called Bella Donna made with Nutella, banana and Baileys.
Spiaggia, 461-465 North End Road, SW6 1NZ

The toast...

Cereal Killer Café
It’s the controversial all-day breakfast spot that needs no introduction. But, it also does a sideline in toast with varying toppings, including jams, Marmite, strawberry fluff and — you guessed it — Nutella. Read our review of What The Cereal Killer Café Is Actually Like.
Cereal Killer Café, 139 Brick Lane, E1 6SB

Portland
New Great Portland Street hotspot Portland — brought about by the team behind Clerkenwell’s The Quality Chop House — serves Nutella on toast. Simple.
Portland, 113 Great Portland Street W1W 6QQ

Name your Nutella

The customised...

Selfridges
You can’t consume it on-site, but Selfridges does offer you the opportunity of personalising a jar of Nutella, for yourself or the chocoholic in your life. A stand in the food hall will print a label while you wait, displaying your name of choice on the jar in the style of the iconic red and black logo.
Selfridges, 400 Oxford Street, W1A 1AB
