London Shorts: On The Bridge

In the first of a new series, Londonist presents a fresh short film featuring our fine capital from up-and-coming filmmakers.

On The Bridge from Sameer Patel on Vimeo.

Why not while away a few minutes in style with this unpredictable comedy-drama about a chance encounter on Waterloo Bridge? With the city skyline looking terrific in the background, timid office worker Matthew (Christopher Tester) meets fearless squaddie Danny (Dean Lennox Kelly) who plans to test his mettle by jumping into the Thames.

"Shooting on Waterloo Bridge presented us with certain challenges," director Sameer Patel told Londonist, "For example at 11pm people stream across the bridge having just come out of the theatre and there’s non-stop traffic all night. Also at one point there was an illegal party on the beach near the bridge.

"The best way to deal with these things is not to get too stressed about it and figure out how to incorporate these elements into the final piece.”

Inspired by a true story, On The Bridge is directed by Patel, written and co-produced by Elena Fuller and produced by Danny de Warren. It was co-funded by Film London and Wandsworth Borough Council and was screened recently at the London Short Film Festival.
