Going back to work tomorrow? If you're a regular bus user in east London, you might find your journey disrupted due to strike action by drivers working for Tower Transit services.

Bus drivers for operators across the capital were balloted for strike action earlier this month. A vote to walk out on Monday 29 December and Monday 5 January followed a dispute over parity of pay and conditions. Transport for London (TfL) say although Tower Transit operate just 5% of the capital's buses, the two 24-hour strikes are likely to result in severe disruption with some services not running.

The first strike will start at one minute past midnight on 29 December and run until 11.59pm, so services during the day on Monday and into the early hours of 30 December will be affected. The routes are:

  • 25 (24 hour route) – Oxford Circus to Ilford
  • 26 – Waterloo to Hackney Wick
  • 30 – Hackney Wick to Marble Arch
  • 58 – East Ham to Walthamstow Central
  • 236 – Finsbury Park to Hackney Wick
  • 308 – Wanstead to Clapton

  • N551 – Piccadilly Circus to Gallions Reach
  • RV1 – Covent Garden to Tower Gateway
  • W14 – Leyton to Woodford Bridge
  • W15 – Cogan Avenue Estate to Hackney Town Hall

The second strike will start at one minute past midnight on 5 January and run until 11.59pm, affecting services on the Monday and early hours of Tuesday 6 January:

  • 23 (24 hour route) – Liverpool Street to Westbourne Park
  • 25 (24 hour route) – Oxford Circus to Ilford
  • 26 – Waterloo to Hackney Wick
  • 28 – Kensal Rise to Wandsworth
  • 30 – Hackney Wick to Marble Arch

  • 308 – Wanstead to Clapton
  • 328 – Golders Green to Chelsea
  • 339 – Leytonstone to Shadwell
  • 425 – Clapton to Stratford
  • N26 – Trafalgar Square to Chingford
  • N28 – Camden Town to Wandsworth
  • N31 – Camden Town to Clapham Junction
  • N550 – Trafalgar Square to Canning Town

TfL say passengers should check their website for updates before travelling, use their mobile countdown service or find alternative ways to get to work. Also watch out for alerts on Twitter from @TfL and @TfLBusAlerts using #BusStrike.
