Have you heard of Sands Films? It's not only a film studio and production company, but also a world class costume workshop (dressing the actors for the upcoming TV series of Wolf Hall), and on top of that, a cinema club and picture library. And all of that is under one roof since 1975, in an old warehouse just a few steps away from Rotherhithe overground station.
This month and later in December, you'll have the opportunity to step inside this hidden gem and discover its secret rooms, as you enjoy music from international musicians. Sands Films will be playing host to TunedIn.London for the first time, presenting three world music gigs:
- There's Pablo Dominguez and La Leo Power performing powerful Spanish flamenco on Sands Films's cinema stage on Thursday 20 November
- Or try traditional Gypsy music from Romany Diamonds in the cosy atmosphere of the cinema club on Thursday 4 December
- Then guitar and bouzouki combine thanks to the Musicians of the Rebet Asker Greek Root Series on Wednesday 17 December
All gigs cost £10, with advance tickets available here. Hot drinks will also be served during the evening. All ages welcome.
Sands Films is at 82 St Marychurch St, London SE16 4HZ. Nearest stations: Rotherhithe overground station and Canada Water tube station.
Nearby: If you have time before the concert, have a pint at The Mayflower historical pub, which is just opposite Sands Films' building. If you have a free afternoon before the gig, why not exploring the Brunel Museum or visiting Canada Water Library?
