ICE SKATING: Slowly but surely, London’s seasonal ice rinks are waking up for the season, and weekdays are the best time to visit, as they're at their quietest. See what’s already open, or book ahead for the rest of the run-up to Christmas.

MIDDLE EAST FARE: Nadia Benaim of Delicious Diva takes over the demo kitchen at JW3 Cultural Centre to share Lebanese and Egyptian recipes. £30, prebook, 10.30am

SOHO LADIES: The Wild and Wonderful Women of Soho is a tour that looks at how women have helped shape the area into what it is today. Expect dark stories of exploitation with lashings of sex, brothels, parties, nudity, drunkenness and foul language. £10/£7.50, prebook, 11am

STAGE TO SCREEN: A series of illustrated talks at National Theatre explores the film adaptations of acclaimed NT plays. Today is the turn of David Hare’s Plenty, which was made into a film starring Meryl Streep in 1985. £6/£4, prebook, 3pm

WAR FASHION: Join design and fashion historian Emmanuelle Dirix at London Transport Museum in Covent Garden to learn about how the First World War changed women’s lives, and the way they dressed. SHORT FILMS: Shorts On Tap presents Enemy in Noir - 7 Short Films at Juno Shoreditch, with the chance to discuss, debate and comment on the films with their directors. Free, prebook, 7pm

COMIC STRIP: Ever wanted to make your own comic strip? Head to Drink Shop & Do in King's Cross for an evening of creativity and cocktails with comic strip expert Tallulah. £5, prebook, 7pm

DO DEMOCRACY: As part of Parliament Week, Southbank Centre hosts an evening of live performance and debate. A panel of young musicians and decision makers discuss the relationship between politics and music. The discussion is followed by a free gig. Free, just turn up, from 7.30pm

SYRIA SPEAKS: As part of Nour Festival, Syrian poet Golan Haji and authors Robin Yassin Kassab and Zaher Omareen read from new anthology Syria Speaks: Art and Culture from the Frontline at Chelsea Theatre. £10, prebook, 7.30pm

HIP HOP PUB QUIZ: The combination of thinking and drinking is taken literally at The Book Club in Shoreditch in Spin Doctor's Hip Hop Pub Quiz. Expect questions on MCs, DJs, producers, albums and anything else hip-hop related. £1/£2, prebook, 7.30pm

AUSTRIAN BAROQUE: Austrian baroque ensemble Klingzeug bring their European tour to the Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe. Their show explores national styles of the 17th and 18th centuries, with rarely-heard works by Matteis, Pandolfi Mealli, Stradella, and Weichenberger. £11, prebook, 7.30pm

DALI PAINTING: Pop-up Painting comes to a new venue, The Jam Tree in Clapham, giving you the chance to create a reproduction of Dali's The Persistence of Memory. No experience required, all materials provided. £19, prebook, 8pm

HITLER HISTORY: Henry Wermuth, born in 1923, once tried to kill Hitler by attempting to derail the train the Fuhrer was travelling on. Tonight, Wermuth tells his story at London Jewish Cultural Centre. £10/£12.50, prebook, 8pm
