Listings

PHOTOGRAPHY: Travelling Black and White starts today at The Framers Gallery. Photographer Christopher Dolme displays intimate and very personal images documenting his life and worldwide travels. From London to Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai to the Aeolian Islands, you'll discover his world. Free, until 29 November

CHOCOLATE: If that word got your attention, you'll want to get yourself down to Old Street Station this week, as one of the pop-up retail units is being taken over by chocolate company Doisy & Dam. Known for their superfood chocolate, Doisy & Dam will sell their chocolate alongside a sugar and dairy free hot chocolate drink. They'll also have a gifting section where people can order chocolate to be sent to friends and families for Christmas. Their flavours are certainly unusual; goji and orange chocolate, anyone? Keep up to date with other London pop-up shops here. Until 30 November

NEW EXHIBITION: City Guides: Ambassadors of the Square Mile exhibition starts today at Guildhall Library. This photographic display tells the story of The City of London Guides Association since its foundation in 1893. Free, until 14 March 2015

THEATRE TOUR: Theatrical experts lead rare backstage tours at the National Theatre on Southbank. No two tours are ever the same as costumes and props are made on site and rehearsals may well be taking place. £7.50/£8.50, prebook, 10am/1.30pm/5.15pm

POETRY, MUSIC AND ART: Poet Jacqueline Saphra reads extracts from her new book, If I Lay on my Back I Saw Nothing but Naked Women, at the Poetry Cafe with musical accompaniment from composer Benjamin Tassie and cellist Alice Hyland. Artist-printmaker Mark Andrew Webber will be exhibiting linocut illustrations from the book. Free, just turn up, 6.30pm

CHEF TAKEOVER: For one night only, Bonnie Gull’s Executive Chef Luke Robinson takes over Islington rotisserie restaurant LeCoq, as part of LeCoq’s monthly chef takeover events. The bespoke menu includes: soda bread, whey butter and smoked salmon powder, Jerusalem artichokes with apples, brown butter, honey and cider and more. £35, prebook, various time slots

CINEMA CLUB: The Duke Mitchell Film Club hosts a very early Christmas celebration featuring 80s movies and a film quiz, at The Phoenix Artist Club close to Leicester Square. Free, just turn up, 7pm

COMEDY: Not quite stand up, more ‘sit at the back of the room and play with cameras’ (there’s a fuller explanation in our review of the first night), Simon Munnery hosts another Fylm School at the Soho Theatre with guests Nina Conti and Sam Simmons. £15, prebook, 7.30pm

POP-UP PAINTING: Have a go at recreating this poppy scene on canvas at The Shortlands Tavern in Bromley and take the finished piece home with you. No painting experience required and all materials are provided. £5 of the ticket price goes to Help For Heroes. £25, prebook, 8pm

NIGHT SHIFT: Cheering, chatting and drinking aren't things you usually associate with classical music concerts, but all three are encouraged at Southbank Centre tonight. The programme begins with music by Edvard Grieg and Edward Elgar, followed by Antonin Dvorák's Serenade for strings. And if you hang around afterwards, there's a DJ set too. £6/£9/£10, prebook, 9pm

BLOOD: Today’s opportunities to donate blood are at St Olave Parish Hall in Fenchurch Street, Sainsbury's in Sydenham, and the usual donor centres. See site for terms and conditions. Scared of donating blood? Watch our video. UPDATE: The Freemason's Hall opportunity has been cancelled.

Last year we took a look at where to eat in London for Thanksgiving. This year's suggestions are over here (it’s this Thursday, FYI).
