Latest Mini-Holland Plan For Waltham Forest Unveiled

bikesProposals for changes to Ruckholt Road in Leyton under the Mayor of London's £30m 'mini-Holland' cycling scheme have been unveiled.

Over the next three years, Walthamstow village and town centre, Lea Bridge Road and the town centres of Leyton, Leytonstone, Highams Park and Chingford will all see extensive work done to improve the area's cycling infrastructure.

Ruckholt Road is one of the borough's busiest — used by around 24,500 vehicles, including 1,000 cyclists per day. The list of changes for the road is pretty extensive, and includes segregated cycle lanes, wider pedestrian crossings and closing access for vehicles to some parts of the road. You can see more detail on the plans here.

The plan also notes that some parking bays will be removed — this will doubtless spark objections. Although it also says alternative parking will be provided in nearby roads, it's not clear where those roads are so local residents could find their on-street parking reduced. Lessons also appear to have been learned with regard to placement of bus stops, with so-called 'floating' bus stops which will allow cyclists to bypass them.

The recent mini-Holland trial sparked a deluge of complaints from Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy and local residents who said the consultation had been poorly communicated.

Local residents can offer feedback on the plans until Wednesday 26 November by emailing miniholland@walthamforest.gov.uk.
