Politics: does the whole thing make you want to bang your head against a brick wall? Well, this week you might change your mind, as Parliament Week comes to London.

The festival aims to connect the general public with Parliament and democracy issues. This year has a special focus on young people and political engagement: there are more than 50 events taking place in the capital — most are free.

Follow the House of Commons Debate 2014 tomorrow, which marks the start of the festival: members of the UK Youth Parliament aged 11-18 discuss five issues chosen by a ballot of youngsters across the country — the debate will be streamed live on the Parliament website. Visit Portcullis House during its open day and enjoy creative free activities on 15 November, discover how fashion and politics can be related on 17 November, or join the debate on how music can be influenced by politics — while enjoying live music at Southbank Centre — on 18 November.

You can also join the social media call-to-action: use the hashtag #DoDemocracy and share your thoughts. Follow the debate on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook: there will also be a number of live Twitter Q&As with MPs during the week.

Parliament Week takes place from 14-20 November across the UK. Not living in London? Check out which other cities are taking part.
