New sci-fi blockbuster Interstellar, made by London’s own Christopher Nolan, apparently had its science thoroughly vetted by space boffins including physicist Kip Thorne (friend of Stephen Hawking and Carl Sagan), so it might come as a surprise that the black hole featured in the film resembles a truly timeless symbol of transport.
Throughout the epic movie we were continually dazzled by the images of the cosmos and — floating in the middle of it all — a massive black hole... which looks a lot like a tube roundel.
We challenge you to watch the epic now without wanting to shout “Mind the f****ing gap! That one there in the space-time continum!” at astronauts Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway as they tumble headlong towards it. It’s a roundel folks, but not as we know it.
Interstellar is on now at just about every cinema in London.
