Ten arrests were made last night after clashes between anti-capitalist protesters and police at the 'Million Mask March' in London.
In one of the largest of a global series of demonstrations promoted by anti-establishment group Anonymous, 4,000 protesters in their trademark Guy Fawkes masks marched from Trafalgar Square to Parliament Square. Further protests were held outside Buckingham Palace and the BBC's headquarters in central London. The group's website called on people to support the march, stating:
We protest against austerity, we protest against the infringement of our rights, we protest of the mass surveillance, we protest together with our children, our parents, uncles, homeless and veterans.
The group also promise 'bigger banners, louder voices, more fireworks, more people and a louder sound system' for marches in 2015 and 2016. Clashes began after some protesters blocked roads around Parliament Square and threw bottles, metal barriers and traffic cones at police.
The Met has said that the arrests included people suspected of public order offences, attempted GBH and obstruction. A police officer was injured after a protester allegedly launched a firework which exploded outside Buckingham Palace.
