KIDS FESTIVAL: Technopop Festival takes place kicks off today at The International Quarter in Stratford City. The festival focuses on innovation, technology and science for children and teenagers aged 6-19: events include an exhibition, workshops and educational events. FOOD POP-UP: Goodlife vegetarian food company is at Spitalfields Market until Sunday with a pop-up stall, presenting new dishes. There will be free samples for the public too. Until 12 October

FREE LECTURES: Gresham College presents two free lectures today: Interpreting Ely Cathedral takes place at Barnard's Inn Hall in Chancery Lane (free, just turn up, 1pm), while Palaces of the Early Stuart Kings is at the Museum of London (free, just turn up, 6pm)

GUIDED WALK: Join Stephen Benton from Footprints of London, who will take you around Bloomsbury on the tracks of Virginia Woolf. Learn about the connections between the author and the central London area. £10/£7.50, prebook, 2pm

STRAWBERRY HILL: Explore Walpole's Gothic castle by choosing between two different tours happening today. The 18h-century Garden Tour is a 45 minute long walk around one of the earliest gardens in the English naturalistic style (Free but you need to buy a ticket for the castle, just turn up, 3.30pm). Or try the Twilight Tour, which takes you around the castle at dusk (£20, prebook, 8pm)

FREE SHAKESPEARE: Enjoy a free outdoor performance of Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice, taking place at Exchange Square, just off Liverpool Street. The show is brought on stage by London Contemporary Theatre company. Free, just turn up, today and tomorrow 6.30pm

FORTEAN SOCIETY: Head to The Bell pub in Liverpool Street for a talk about The Slendermen. Cat Vincent from London Fortean Society talks about this modern monster. £3/£2, just turn up, 7.30pm

MUSIC IN A CHURCH: City of London Sinfonia teams up with the Holst Singers for a musical celebration of Shakespeare performed in Southwark Cathedral, the bard’s parish church when he lived and worked in London. The repertoire includes Purcell, Finzi and Mendelssohn. £25-£5, prebook, 7.30pm

ALBUM LAUNCH: Wilton's Music Hall hosts Cathal Smyth, aka Chas from Madness, who will perform live and present his new album. Alongside the gig there will be a street art exhibition inspired by the album. £35, prebook, 8pm

PLAY READING: An audience of 20 people read together from the latest edition of Tom Phillips’s ongoing project A Humument. The audience for this shared reading will each be given sections to read as the work is brought to life in the Poetry Library. £5, prebook, 8pm

Good Cause of the Day

On Tuesday 14 October Looking for Changes - 7 Short Films takes place at Cafe 1001 in Brick Lane. There will be a selection of 7 short films dealing with equality and LGBT rights, followed by Q&A sessions with the filmmakers. The event aims to fundraise for LGBT charity Galop, as well as funding the production of Wonderkid, a short film shedding light on homophobia in professional football. £3, prebook, 7pm
