Riverford Field Kitchen: coming to London

Welcome to our weekly round-up of all that’s happening in London’s food and drink scene.

Inside this week: Riverford, Ramsay and rum in a car park

Riverford in the city

Londoners will know Riverford for its organic veg boxes, but the company also runs a highly regarded restaurant in the form of Riverford Field Kitchen at its farm in Devon. Now the team is bringing the same concept to London, only minus the farm. They’ve teamed up with The Duke Of Cambridge gastropub in Islington to create a menu based around the season’s best fruit and veg (there’ll be meat and fish, too) and served ‘feast-style’ to share at the table, as it is at the Devon restaurant. It feels like a natural pairing given The Duke Of Cambridge’s title as the UK’s first and only organic pub, but the hook-up is also down to the fact that the pub’s owner Geetie Singh has recently married Riverford founder Guy Watson. Riverford At The Duke Of Cambridge will launch on 7 November and is set to run indefinitely.

Ramsay takes a walk

We reported back in June that Gordon Ramsay had purchased the Chelsea site of his former restaurant Aubergine with plans for a new opening. The chef launched Aubergine in 1993 and gained his first two Michelin stars there before its closure in 2010. Details are still vague, but Ramsay’s business partner Stuart Gillies has now revealed that the restaurant will be called Park Walk (that’s the name of the street it’s on), and that it will open “early next year”. We’ve heard on the grapevine that the restaurant will be vaguely similar in style to Ramsay’s Mayfair grill Maze, and that there could be a sushi bar included.

Tales take two

Following a successful run last year, Night Tales will return on 7 November. The street food and drink fest will take over a two-storey car park on Old Street for seven weeks, open from Thursdays to Saturdays right up until Christmas. Highlights will include all things jerk from Rum Kitchen, pizza from Voodoo Rays, Yum Bun’s famous steamed buns, cheese toasties from Morty And Bob’s, and the first outing for Patty & Bun’s brand new burger van. There’ll also be live music until late, hot cocktails (including a mulled negroni), craft beers and more. Another highlight is that entry will once again be free.

New openings

Ex-Petersham Nurseries chef Skye Gyngell launched her new restaurant Spring in Somerset House this week, while Señor Ceviche opened up in Kingly Court near Carnaby Street. Elsewhere the man behind Kurobuta, Scott Hallsworth, has launched Japanese restaurant and late bar Ramusake on Old Brompton Road.

Next week sees the launch of tiny new sushi bar The Araki on Regent Street, from a three Michelin-starred japanese chef; Le Chalet opens on the roof of Selfridges; and bizarre-sounding, beach-themed restaurant Spiaggia arrives in Fulham.

Later in the year, a second branch of High Street Kensington’s Acciuga restaurant launches in Smithfields; a new Burger & Lobster restaurant comes to Soho’s Dean Street; and the first UK branch of upmarket Moscow-based pizza chain Bocconcino opens in Mayfair.
