Tour Of Britain Comes To London

Sir Bradley Wiggins competes in last year's event

With the road-side dust from the Tour de France barely settled in London, sports fans can now look forward to another cycling treat as the Tour of Britain comes to town this weekend.

Sunday sees the final stage of the Tour take place in London with riders competing in the individual time trial. For the uninitiated, this involves each rider setting off individually, one minute apart, rather than as one group, as you might have seen on previous stages.

The start and finish point is in on Whitehall, with riders cycling down Victoria Embankment and Upper/Lower Thames Street towards the City of London, turning around at Tower Gateway, before heading back to Westminster in a bid to be the quickest over the course.

After a short break, the riders head back onto the streets to compete in the circuit race, comprising 10 laps of the course as one group.

The route features plenty of opportunities for photos against a backdrop of iconic London landmarks, most notably on Whitehall, Tower Hill and Parliament Square.

Despite being a lower profile event than its French equivalent, this year’s Tour has still attracted big name riders including Sir Bradley Wiggins.

The time trial starts at 11.01am, with the circuit race commencing later on, at 3.30pm.
