There's this dance act, a pair of brothers from Reigate who call themselves Disclosure, and who released a song called White Noise that's had some 20 million views on YouTube. Now, before that song Disclosure did a song called Latch, which has had 78 million YouTube views — there aren't even that many people in the UK and that's including Scotland.

And on Latch there was a guest singer named Sam Smith, and thanks to the way fame works nowadays, he's more well-known than the entire cast of the BBC's celebrity-strewn Saturday night extravaganza Tumble, which is simply extraordinary. And Sam Smith, having sold out two dates at Hammersmith Apollo with very little bother, has now lined up two shows at Brixton Academy on 25 and 26 March next year.

Tickets for these go on sale this Friday (12 September) at 9am, and if you don't snaffle a handful, you will find yourself squinting up at the roller coaster taking Sam Smith to far bigger stages — stages that you will struggle to see from the other end of the gigantic arenas he seems destined for.

Honestly, we're lucky enough as it is to get the chance to see him in a place as small as Brixton Academy. His single Stay With Me has hit number 1 in the UK and number 2 in America (though only 6 in Switzerland), and you'll probably know it, even if you didn't realise it was Sam Smith singing. Here's the video... 82 million views and counting.

He's got a voice on him, there no denying that. His already-platinum-selling album In the Lonely Hour was released in May, and due to the steep incline of the former Limehouse resident's climb, he's been described (a little lazily if you ask us) as some sort of 'male Adele'. His parental roots lie in Islington and despite a stint in Cambridgeshire we'll be claiming him as our own thank you very much.

A more interesting slice of Smith comes in the form of his track I've Told You Now, recorded live last year at St Pancras Old Church, which you can hear below.

Though such rapid rises tend to provoke cynicism, that song more certainly demonstrates Smith's talents, and hopefully points to his potential longevity when the limelight swings onto the next-next big thing. Catch him at Brixton before he's out of our reach.

Sam Smith plays Brixton Academy on 25 and 26 March 2014. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday 12 September and are available from Stargreen, Ticketweb and most other standard ticketing sites.
