Paddle boarding — or to give it its full name, stand up paddle boarding — always looks so refined when we watch solitary Spaniards give it a go in the Canary Islands. Will a group of Londoners paddle boarding down Regent's Canal have the same effect?

The Wave Project, a Cornwall-based organisation which changes the lives of vulnerable children through surfing, has organised a sponsored paddleboard along Regent's Canal and is looking for Londoners to take part.

The event, which takes place on Saturday 20 September, starts at Paddington Basin and follows the canal, brushing past Little Venice, skirting around the edge of Regent's Park, including the middle of London Zoo, and down to Camden Lock... and then all the way back.

Naivety is no excuse for not taking part in the five mile course as previous experience isn't necessary, and all training and equipment will be provided on the day.

One you've signed up, start collecting sponsorship money. Each boarder must raise a minimum of £100, and the boarder who raises the most sponsorship money wins a 10 day surf trip to Morocco, including flights.

The Wave Project sponsored paddleboard takes place on 20 September. Book your place here.

Like the sound of paddle boarding? It was one of our suggestions for alternative commuting methods earlier this year.
