A special event to commemorate the First World War takes place at St John’s Smith Square, Westminster, this Thursday 11 September.
We Will Remember Them also marks the 95th anniversary of Combat Stress, the Veterans’ Mental Health Charity, and allows the audience to experience the First World War era through music, poetry and readings from August 1914 to the signing of the Armistice in November 1918.
Soprano (and Britain’s Got Talent 2014 finalist) Lucy Kay will be performing, while actor Lewis Macleod will narrate the audience through popular songs such as “It’s A Long Way to Tipperary” and “Pack Up Your Troubles”. There’ll also be poetry readings of the work of wartime poets such as Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon.
They will be joined by Songs of Praise presenter Pam Rhodes, former foreign correspondent Martin Bell OBE, plus Combat Stress Veterans and Ambassadors and a special musical tribute from The Dreamers.
This will be a great opportunity to commemorate the centenary, pay tribute to those lost, and honour those who returned home suffering from psychological and physical wounds.
