Tom Du Croz from LondonGigGuide selects five small/medium gigs around town this week.
Tuesday 8 September
Joe Innes & The Cavalcade, The Finsbury, Manor House
https://soundcloud.com/joeinnesandthecavalcade/5-fables
Welcome to the wonderfully weird world of Joe Innes and the Cavalcade. His lyrics are inspired by Jurassic Park, Gloria Gaynor and finding a dead rat as a child. It is all wound together with beautiful melodies and great musicianship. @joeinnes, @TheFinPub
Wednesday 10 September
We Used To Make Things, Paper Dress Vintage, Shoreditch
https://soundcloud.com/we-used-to-make-things/love-in-a-minor-key-demo
Such a brilliant band to see live. They will break your heart with slower tracks like Love in a Minor Key, then turn you into a dancing, grinning idiot with Stillness of an Actor and We're all F**ked Up. They are pop, rock, indie, ska and everything else you can think of all played with passion and joy. @WUTMT, @paperdressed
Thursday 11 September
Alessi and High Tyde, The Forge, Camden
This Week's double bill. Alessi — (Alessi's Ark) is a pop / folk artist from London. She has toured with the likes of Laura Marling, Cerys Matthews and Laura Veirs and worked with Bright Eyes’ producer Mike Mogis and Andy LeMaster. Her third album The Still Life was released last year on the renowned indie label Bella Union. High Tyde are a Brighton based indie tropicana band that are making their mark with sell-out shows across the UK and have been hotly tipped as the 'Band to watch' by BBC Introducing. @allaboardtheark, @wearehightyde, @TheForgeCamden
Friday 12 September
Melosa, The Magic Garden, Battersea
https://soundcloud.com/melosalive/little-bit-of-heaven
This is their new single which they released at the beginning of August. Expect big horns, ska beats, samples and swinging lyrics. @melosalive, @magic_pub
Saturday 13 September
The Incredible Magpie Band, Queen of Hoxton, Shoreditch
This is a 60s inspired Wakefield five piece. They are opposed to being pigeon-holed so I we'll resist from calling them 'retro psychedelic pop merchants'. Whatever you want to call them, we love this track. @TIMB_Official, @_QueenOfHoxton_
