It's often said that 'elf and safety stops children getting up to half the mischief that their parents used to. That needn't be the case at Alexandra Palace, which offers day-long tree climbing adventures for all ages (parents, that means you too). Don't fear, there are helmets, karabiners and all manner of safety gear, and the really brave can zip wire back down at the end.

Head to the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford for special live shows of Dinosaur Train, starring kids' favourite Buddy the T-Rex. If you check-in to the Dinosaur Train event on Facebook on the day of the show, you're in with a chance to win a free Dinosaur Train DVD.

Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham has a fairytale themed afternoon. Along with a mini tour of Strawberry Hill, there's a chance to make a crown, sword, shield, wand or tiara, depending which way your knight/princess inclinations lie. Over 5s only.

Design an Ice Lolly
Take your children to the Museum of Brands in Notting Hill and show them the products that were around when you were growing up. Throughout the holidays, children can take part in a design your own ice lolly trail around the exhibits. Well-known products such as Kia-Ora, Ribena, and cola are all on display, and children must choose from these to design their lolly. All designs will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the holidays.
