Ever watched cyclists on TV, zooming around a velodrome and thought: “I could do that”? Well now’s your chance to put your money where your mouth is.

As part of their summer of sport programme, Broadgate are offering novice cyclists the opportunity to ride the world’s only pop-up velodrome — built in the heart of the City. And if that isn’t enough, the quickest male and female riders will join pro riders in the televised final later on in the day. Judging from the promotional video, it looks like it will be a lot of fun.

The SportPursuit StreetVelodrome series takes place on Thursday 7 August in Exchange Square, behind Liverpool Street Station. For those wanting to compete, the heats take place between 11am and 3pm (although the track is open to the public to ride on between 11am and 5pm). It's advisable to reserve your free slot in advance however at the booking desk on site, which opens at 9am. All equipment is provided.

If you don’t fancy track cycling, but want in on the festivities, Broadgate Bike Station will be located there on the day — a place where you can bring your iron horse for maintenance and get tips on cycling in the capital.

The SportPursuit StreetVelodrome series will be shown on Channel 4, Eurosport and Sky Sports in autumn over two hour-long episodes.
