Throughout the summer, Horniman Museum in Forest Hill is resuscitating the Edwardian era in a series of holiday activities, including a tea party and Edwardian games. On Thursday evening though, it's adults only, as the anthropological museum holds its Edwardian Late.
The evening opens with an Edwardian cinema experience, presented by Lucky Dog Picturehouse. Expect short, silent films from 1901-1910, accompanied by live musical soundtrack.
Following on from this is the Moustache Cabaret. Sleek facial decoration is very much encouraged at Mr Horniman's Music Hall. If the picture above is anything to go by, the evening will take a slightly macabre turn with the arrival of The Amazing Norvil's magic show at 7.30pm. The circus performance by a duet of acrobats is based around a "wheel house" structure, which leads us to conjure up images of a giant hamster wheel.
For a more refined experience, put on your dancing shoes and step back into an age of elegance at the Tea Dance in the Horniman Conservatory, or take a tour of the original museum, designed by Edwardian architect Charles Harrison Townsend. There's even an opportunity to take part in the most Edwardian of experiences, the posed portrait, in the photo booth — it's a selfie from a bygone era.
