Londonist Afloat: Terrific Tales Of The Thames

Londonist is not only media partner to Totally Thames, we're part of the event programme and have put together a weekend of lively and interactive talks about the river over 20-21 September, featuring some of our most interesting friends. And it's all taking place on the water aboard HMS President, currently decked out in 'dazzle camouflage' as one of the World War One centenary art commissions.

On Saturday 20 September, Tom Bolton and Tom Chivers will joust in a ‘lost rivers of London’ geek-off. Author Caitlin Davies and Chris Romer-Lee of the Thames Baths Project look at Swimming in the Thames past and present, before a wave of Thames Oddities"> washes aboard with our own Matt Brown and Westminster Guide Pete Berthoud.

On Sunday 21 September, we uncover myths and mysteries of the river with Fortean London founder Scott Wood and paganism expert Rob Stephenson, followed by a look at two of London’s docks — St Katharine and West India — by, respectively, local expert Christopher West and Museum of London contemporary curator Georgina Young. To finish, London Dreamtime take a family-friendly voyage through sea shanties, comedies, music hall songs and folklore, suitable for the littlest Londonists and their grown-up friends.

All events will be hosted by Londonist staff and contributors and there'll be a chance to join us on deck for a drink if the weather's nice. We may even have some bits of Londonist merch on special offer.

Tickets for each session are £7.50 or £5 concessions. Please book through the Totally Thames website.

This is just one way to get on the river this September during Totally Thames.
