A life-sized knitted garden which has spent four years touring the UK is on display at artsdepot in North Finchley until early next month.

Blooming Marvellous was created by a community of more than 2,500 skilled knitters and crocheters in Dorset, and took up three floors of Bournemouth Library when originally exhibited there.

The garden includes a vegetable patch, shed, pond and even garden tools. The picnic comes complete with sausages, cherry bakewells and a thermos, all fashioned out of wool. The animal kingdom is well represented too, with birds — including knitted ducks on the knitted pond — and mice crawling about the picnic feast.

To coincide with the exhibition, knitting workshops are being held at artsdepot every Saturday throughout August. Aimed at those aged 12 and above, it's a chance for beginners and the more advanced knitter to learn techniques, including knitting a baby butterfly, for a £5 donation.

Blooming Marvellous is at artsdepot until 4 September. Entry is free, open 10am-4pm daily, except 24, 25 and 31 August. Read more about the garden's previous travels.

If this has got your knitter's juices flowing, why not take part in The Big Stitch Up at Southbank Centre? The felt cornershop in Bethnal Green is also worth a visit.
