Free Entertainment In Covent Garden This Weekend

Seven Dials

Seven Dials in Covent Garden is usually a hive of activity on a Saturday afternoon, with West End shoppers bustling through the area on bargain hunts. This weekend though, visitors are encouraged to kick back and enjoy, as the area goes traffic-free and entertainment is laid on by the bucketload for Spotlight art and culture festival.

The local theatre and dance heritage is celebrated with performances including Our World at War by the Tristan Bates Theatre and dance shows by Pineapple Studios, all taking place on an outdoor stage.

On top of this, local shops and businesses are getting involved, offering discounts and special events. Make-up supplier Screen Face is offering body painting, Earlham Street Clubhouse will be sharing cocktail tips and tricks at an outdoor bar, and Superga have shoe customisation going on. See the full list of activities here.

If it all gets too much, Emergency Poet is on hand to offer poems written to cure whatever ailment you have. We don't vouch for the medical credibility of it, but it sounds like jolly good fun. The world's smallest solar-powered cinema will be showing a series of short films, which, this being London, will probably put the mockers on any hopes of nice weather.

Seven Dials Spotlight takes place on 16 August, 12pm-7pm. It's free and there's no need to book. Full events list here.
