Party Beneath A Flyover In Canning Town

A13Green

The A13 Green festival is back this year, making clever use of space underneath the flyover at Canning Town and creating an urban village green — with events every Friday throughout the summer.

OK, so Terry Spinks Place isn't exactly going to be a bucolic oasis, but there will be a bandstand, some grass, ping pong and a bar. Each week has differently themed events: storytelling (1 August), the sounds of the underpass (8 August), fitness (15 August), cars (22 August), home, featuring the Canning Town Crab (29 August), movement and acrobatics (5 September) and the Light Fantastic as a finale on 12 September. Expect choirs and more live music, zumba classes, dressing up, installations and all kinds of family activities.

The fun starts this Friday with a launch party featuring a temple to toast, a 10-piece drum and brass band and a place to make some celebratory hats. Not forgetting that bar and ping pong.

It's all totally free, and totally solar powered.

A13 Green runs every Friday, 6pm-10pm, between 25 July-12 September at Terry Spinks Place, Canning Town. For more information see The Brick Box's website or Newham.com.
