East Village, the new neighbourhood at the heart of the former London 2012 Olympic Park, is working with outdoor exercise initiative Our Parks, to offer a series of free, al fresco fitness classes this summer.

Make the most of the season and train like an Olympian in the former Olympic grounds with the brand new ‘Athlefit’ class, especially created for East Village. Led by expert coaches Liam Cole and Born Barikor, the class includes a full warm up followed by high intensity plyometric (that's rapid, repeated stretching and contracting of the muscles, for the uninitiated) and sprint training, before rounding off with a low intensity cool down and stretching.

It’s a complete workout. Set within 27 hectares of space. For free. Beats that windowless gym doesn’t it?

There are other classes available too, including Hula Hoop Fitness and Skip Fit — a toning class than combines skipping and kick-boxing moves. Buggyfit offers something for new mums and their young ones, with exercises specially designed around the buggy to strengthen and tone particular muscle groups.

Bookings can be made after registering online here. East Village residents have priority, but all Londoners are encouraged to get involved, get active and get outdoors this summer.
