Tom Du Croz from LondonGigGuide selects five small/medium gigs around town this week.
Tuesday 8 July
Kal Lavelle, PaperDressVintage, Shoreditch
https://soundcloud.com/kallavelle/sing
One of this week's shameless favourites. Kal is an Irish singer/songwriter currently living in London. She has had a hugely successful career to date including supporting Ed Sheeran and playing a list of festivals as long as your arm. This event is called Song Sisters — and includes a masterclass for budding female writers before the live music starts at 8pm. @KalLavelle, @paperdressed
Wednesday 9 July
Storms, The Sebright Arms, Bethnal Green
Another shameless favourite. This is a London indie band who not only recently had a great write up in NME, they also played Koko for one of the nights NME occasionally throws. Plus we love the floating lips in their video. @stormsband, @SebrightArms
Thursday 10 July
Hattie Whitehead & Mara Simpson, The Rity Cinema, Brixton
https://soundcloud.com/hattiewhitehead/confused-and-untied-new-song-1
https://soundcloud.com/mara-simpson/whiskeysong
This week's double bill. Both these amazing artists have been guests on the show and I have had the pleasure of seeing them both play live. Expect great songwriting, exemplary musicianship and stunning vocals. The thought of them both playing on the same bill sent us a little giddy. @HattieWMusic, @MaraDSimpson, @RitzyCinema
Friday 11 July
Will And The People, The Magic Garden, Battersea
This Rock band was started six years ago by William Rendle. Since then the band's following has steadily grown and they've just been playing at Glastonbury. Seeing such a huge band in a smaller venue like The Magic Garden is a rare opportunity — take it! @watpmusic, @magic_pub
Sunday 13 July
Ginger And The Ghost, The Old Queens Head, Islington
https://soundcloud.com/gingerandtheghost/call-up-the-whales-1
This band is a collaboration between Missy and Daniel, two mixed media visual artists from Sydney. This is the title track from their latest EP and tonight they play in Islington. @Ginger_TheGhost, @oldqueenshead
