If these pictures are anything to go by, Dalston might soon be swapping its plentiful supply of Turkish ocakbasi restaurants for fondue parlours. Local resident and artist Dave Buonaguidi has created a series of lithographic prints that reimagine the area with an Alpine mountain range stretching away into the background. And familiar spots are Frenchified so the train station becomes ‘Gare de Dalston Junction’ and Ridley Street Market is transformed into ‘Marché De Rue Ridley’.
Buonaguidi says he was inspired to create the series, titled ‘Dalston Sur Arc’, while on a ski trip in France. The many connections between the twee hillside villages he saw there and North London’s hipster paradise are too obvious to mention. Aren’t they?
