For over 100 years, the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington has served as the UK's home of measurement. On 20 May, it's opening the laboratory doors to the public.
You'll be able to wander among experiments past and present, including the world's most accurate atomic clock, a demonstration of nanotechnology (using Lego), hologram technology and a recurring 'liquid nitrogen show'. There will also be an exhibition of the Laboratory's distinguished history, and regular talks in the auditorium. The open house will also highlight NPL's work in monitoring climate change and the global energy challenge, to tie in with the theme of World Metrology Day.
So take the afternoon off work, have a picnic lunch in nearby Bushy Park, immerse yourself in science, then finish up in one of Teddington's fine riverside pubs. The perfect day, by any measure.
