Once described by Ken Livingstone as a giant 'glass testicle', City Hall really was transformed into a massive ball on Sunday. Projectors light-painted the dirty-blue facade of the riverside building to create a vast simulacrum of a rugby ball. Note also Tower Bridge lurking in the background, like a set of gothic goalposts.

The PR stunt marks 500 days to go until the Rugby World Cup. The 2015 tournament will take place across England and Wales. London will host many of the games, including matches at the Olympic Stadium, Wembley and the final at Twickenham.
