Camden's Stables Market On Fire

A serious fire has broken out at Camden Market. Flames could be seen emerging from Stables Market, the section to the west of Camden High Street. Six fire engines and 30 fire fighters are at the scene, with smoke visible for miles around. Camden High Street is currently closed, with traffic diverted up Kentish Town Road.

The market was evacuated around 8pm, and no one is thought to be injured or in danger.

Update 10.10pm: The fire is now under control according to witnesses. London Fire Brigade reports that 10 engines and 70 staff were at the scene.

Update 9.47: London Fire Brigade reports that the fire is in the roof voids of the shops, and that they've stopped the fire from affecting the overhead train line.

Update 9.25pm: The smoke has mostly dissipated, and London Fire Brigade appears to be gaining control:

Judging from this photo in the Standard, the heart of the fire is just to the right of the Gilgamesh restaurant, in the area with lots of small food stalls. Video footage appears to show flames and smoke on either side of the overhead rail viaduct.

The blaze is almost directly opposite the site of a fire in 2008, which caused extensive damage. We were literally first on the scene at that one.
