New Fairground Comes To Haggerston

Fairground Preview

The people behind Street Feast, which pops up in various guises around London from time to time, are launching a new project, Fairground.

Starting this Saturday, and running for 10 weekends, the empty office block at 260 Kingsland Road in Haggerston will be taken over by street food vendors, live music and events.

Describing itself as "cultural emporium of music, food, booze, news and views", the festival is split across three floors:

  • Level one is Fairground Live, which will host live music, art installations and brand takeovers. This Saturday, lifestyle brand Love Bullets host a Glastonbury themed takeover with live music sets from Black Butter Records and Nomad Records.
  • Level two is home to The Grandaad Lounge. This is the place to be if you're feeling cultured. There will be talks, workshops, debates and guest speakers, with a different line-up from week to week. Opening weekend sees a master-class on How to Start a Movement from activists the English Disco Lovers.
  • Level three is the Fairground Diner, where street food vendors, pop-up diners and chefs will take on residencies. Some will be there for one weekend only, while others will be there for the duration of the event. This Sunday there is a Thai Food Festival in celebration of Songkran Thai New Year, with a Thai cookery club, music and dancing spreading across all floors.

Various different events happen each week. At time of writing, the programme is only available for the launch weekend, but keep an eye on the website for details of future events.

Fairground London runs at weekends from 12 April-15 June. Entry is free before 7pm and £7 after.  Open 10am-3am on Saturday and 10am-11pm on Sunday. More details on the website. Follow Fairground on Facebook and Twitter.
