It was a lovely day for the London marathon's spectators — perhaps less so for the runners, but at least it wasn't raining. Congratulations to everyone who took part and for every penny raised: we stand in awe. And extra congratulations to Alex Prior, who proposed to his girlfriend Jess Seldon 200m from the finish line.

There's far sadder news for the family of a man who collapsed and died after completing the marathon. The as-yet-unnamed 42 year old is the 12th person to die in the race's history.
