The Best Gigs To See In London: 3-9 March 2014

Tom Du Croz from LondonGigGuide selects his recommended small and medium-sized gigs around town this week.

Monday 3 March

The Graveltones, The Garage, Highbury

I love this band! They are a very loud two-piece putting out brilliant rock and roll numbers like this. They tour Europe in April so make the most of this London gig. Event details

Tuesday 4 March

Damien Jurado, Rough Trade East, Spitalfields

This gig is to launch 'Brothers And Sisters Of The Eternal Son', Damien's 13th studio album. He has such a gorgeous voice. If you can't make this gig, he's also playing at Village Underground on Monday 3 March. Event details

The Coalminers, Bedroom Bar, Shoreditch

Sorry - no sound clip or video for this band, but you can get a free download of their EP from their website. Their cover of Fats Domino's 'Bad Luck and Trouble' is superb, and you have to be brave to cover a classic like that! Event details

Wednesday 5 March

Kelley Stoltz, The Lexington, Angel

This guy grew up in Michigan and then moved to New York. He recorded his most recent double A-side in the garage behind his house, but first got into the music industry by sorting fan mail for Jeff Buckley's record label. Event details

Thursday 6 March

Cosmo Jarvis, The Macbeth, Hoxton

Cosmo is from Totnes in Devon and is a film-maker and an actor as well as a musician. He has taught himself to edit and produce his own tracks and does many of his own recordings at home. Event details

Christian Gregory, The Finsbury, Manor House

This is a fantastic London soul singer, who was recently given radio air time by the mighty Craig Charles on his funk and soul show. If you needed more celebrity endorsement, this track was the first single released by Michael Kiwanuka's new record label Movement Records. Event details

Sam Russo, The Old Red Lion, Kennington

Sam has got together with six other acoustic musicians to put on their own national tour — a simple but genius idea. Tickets are a suggested donation of £5. Event details

Huskies & Glass Caves, Old Blue Last, Shoreditch

https://soundcloud.com/huskiesmusic/whatever-together

This weeks Double Bill. Huskies - This gig is to celebrate the launch of single 'Whatever Together'. Their last single 'Beach' brought them a huge fan base, so plenty of people are looking forward to this event. Glass Caves - They released their debut EP 'Summer Love' last year and are touring throughout March. Free Gig. Event details

Friday 7 March

Nubiyan Twist, Hootananny, Brixton

https://soundcloud.com/nubiyantwist/figure-numatic

An 11-piece outfit playing reggae, hip hop and afro beat who split their time between London and Leeds. Their new EP is due out this spring. Event details

Saturday 8 March

Sky Murphy & The General, The Jamboree, Limehouse

I don't normally like covers, but this one was too good to ignore. The band also play their own tracks, which they record in analogue at Cable Street Studios. Their album 'Enjoyment' was released last year. Event details

Sunday 9 March

King Size Slim, Magic Garden, Battersea

This week's Shameless Favourite. King Size Slim is the alias of Roby Barelli, a performer of modern blues and roots. He has just released his third album and is touring with a new band. Free gig. Event details
