Get Into The Good Life At The Edible Garden Show

TV presenter James Wong wants us to get tropical

Green-fingered readers and foodies alike will be heading to Ally Pally at the end of March for The Edible Garden Show.

The three-day event encourages visitors to produce their own food, from growing vegetables to keeping bees and brewing beer, catering to the current trend of self-sufficiency. Advice will be on hand for both the growing and cooking processes.

TV presenter James Wong will be continuing his campaign to highlight the possibility of growing exotic plants in the British climate. Cynical though we were, the man managed to grow inca berries and other vegetation that we can only dream of being able to pronounce in Britain in December, so we'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

The One Show's gardening expert Christine Walkden will be giving daily talks with advice about growing food products, whether you have a wilderness or a window box to play with. For those more comfortable in the kitchen, TV chef Phil Vickery will be giving a live cooking demonstration Saturday 29 March.

The next generation of green-fingered Londoners feature heavily too, as the show has partnered up with charity School Food Matters to run the 'My Dream Edible Garden’ competition. The 13 shortlisted designs sent in by school groups will all be available for perusal throughout the event. Who needs the Chelsea Flower Show?

The Edible Garden Show takes place at Alexandra Palace from Friday 28-Sunday 30 March, open 9.30am-4.30pm (4pm Sunday). Tickets £12 / £10 advance +bkg, £16/14 on the door, children free.
