Daunt Books Packs In The Authors For A Mini Festival

Daunt Books, which always has good events at its shops across London, has packed lots of them into two days and created a mini-festival at the beautiful Marylebone branch.

Two that immediately caught our eye are AL Kennedy, David Constantine and Helen Simpson discussing and reading from short stories, and three Bright Young Things — authors Adam Foulds, Rebecca Hunt and Evie Wyld, whose first novel After the Fire, A Still Small Voice still haunts us — talking to Edmund Gordon.

You can also hear Deborah Levy, Maggie O'Farrell, Susie Boyt and Lennie Goodings hailing Virago Modern Classics, Barbara Taylor and Adam Phillips exploring mental illness, Sebastian Barry talking about his new novel The Temporary Gentleman to Alex Clark and, if you've read Michael Cunningham's The Hours (not just seen the film), join a walking book club and discuss the novel while rambling over Regent's Park.

Tickets are £5 per event (though children's events are free — book in advance — as is the walking book club). Some events are already sold out of individual tickets but a £30 festival pass gets you into everything, including talks from Michael Morpurgo, Claire Tomalin with Joanna Scanlan, and Tracy Chevalier, Colin Thubron and Mahesh Rao.

Events also often come with a lovely free drink or something to nibble, like a Rococo hot chocolate at the short stories event or a Ginger Pig sausage roll for Bright Young Things.

The Daunt Books Festival takes place 27-28 March at Daunt Books, 83 Marylebone High Street, W1. For more information and to book see the Daunt Books website. Photo by Pedro Figueiredo from the Londonist Flickr pool.
