The Southbank Centre has released details of a tranche of new literary events for spring and early summer, including some corkers.
We're very excited by an evening of short stories, mainly because we have an author crush on AL Kennedy so large it could fell a horse. Joining her on 23 April to read tales of what it means to be human are Helen Simpson and Sarah Hall. If for some reason you don't fancy that, on the same evening there's a World Book Night event celebrating the power of letters read by actors, musicians and writers (full line-up TBC).
Kamila Shamsie, Irvine Welsh and Neel Mukherjee launch new books. Nikesh Shukla cooks his mother's recipes on stage while readers perform his novella The Time Machine — a story of remembering parents, legacy and good food. If it's poetry that interests you, see South Korea's Kim Hyesoon in a free evening at the Poetry Library on 10 April or catch Luke Wright's only London headline show this year, on 26 April. Or book now for the Bailey's Women's Prize for Fiction readings on 3 June.
