These compelling depictions of the daily bus riding experience are by London landscape artist Andy Parker. We thought they deserved a public viewing, especially in the Year of the Bus.
A new stylistic departure for the artist, they were produced during the time when Andy could afford to travel by bus to his then-studio, from Highbury to Wapping. The paintings were inspired "by that strange combination of pacifying and warning colours, particularly on the small back street vehicles, that is the modern bus experience..." They are all acrylic on canvas and over five feet tall.
He has also completed a Portrait of London in 28 canvases called London by Interruption, a four scene panorama of London from the Thames. The series took a year of studio work to complete, three pairs of boots and a lot of walking, let alone the artist's materials. Click here and go to Gallery 1.
