New Monthly Film Night Devoted To Documentaries

A good documentary is a thing of beauty, and we'd argue the very best can teach you more than spending two days with a non-fiction book. So it's with intrigue and high expectations that we share news of a new monthly night dedicated to documentaries.

The Documentary Club screens its first choice on 26 February at Shortwave Cinema. It's Marwencol, a 2010 feature by Jeff Malmberg, which explores how artist and photographer Mark Hogancamp attempts to rebuild his memory after a brutal attack by creating a model WW2-era Belgian town and populating it with dolls representing his friends and family. The film's won a shedload of awards and you can see the trailer below. See the original now before Robert Zemeckis turns it into a drama.

Documentary Club founders Rob Hinchcliffe (who also founded this very website) and Laura Grace promise they'll only show docs they personally adore, including films that are "thought-provoking, hilarious, heartbreaking or utterly bonkers". They also want to help shake off that stuffy image that documentaries sometimes have, so watch out for some absolute corkers.

Marwencol screens 8.45pm on 26 February at Shortwave Cinema, Bermondsey Square, SE1. Tickets £10.
