Our selection of London’s alternative, clever and offbeat comedy gigs this week.
Mike Wozniak
We have serious love for Mike Wozniak and his spectacular moustache. This show, nominated for the top award at Edinburgh last year, is retro 70s mother-in-law-stories based, even down to the outfit, but with a modern alt spin. See him at the Soho Theatre 10-15 February, £10-£15, 9.15pm
Happy Mondays
Josie Long headlines Happy Mondays in New Cross on 10 February, along with Lou Sanders, Dane Baptiste, Michael Fabbri and Holly Walsh MCing. We're very fond of this comedy night, particularly since the Amersham Arms has a good beer list and there are lots of bar breaks. Josie's recently put her entire 2012 show online (see below). £5 adv, 8pm
Rat
We admit we've never seen sketch duo Rat live, but we like the sound of one of their skits as performed by three stupid dogs. Try them out at the Etc Theatre on 12 and 17 February, £11.50, 9.30pm
Mae Martin and Jay Foreman
Two musical comedians take over the Vault Festival on 13 February. Mae Martin is whimsical and Canadian, Jay Foreman you may know from his recent Every Tube Station song. £10, 9.15pm
Comedy Back Rub
Aisling Bea recently did a run at the Soho Theatre but it was all sold out before we got chance to tell you about it. So we're trying to make up for it by pointing out she's at Comedy Back Rub at the Camden Head on 13 February for just one of your English pounds. And for that you also get Daniel Simonsen, Miss London, Lou Sanders, Mr Susie and Sarah Campbell. Bargain. £1, 7.30pm
Sex Appeal
Al Murray hosts the third Sex Appeal fundraiser for sexual health charity Brook, at Bloomsbury Theatre on 15 February. Ava Vidal, Chris Coltrane, Francesca Martinez, Kate Smurthwaite, Mae Martin, Robin Ince, Shappi Khorsandi, Shazia Mirza and Vikki Stone complete a smashing line-up. £18.50 + £2.50 bf, 7pm
