Jojo Oldham has embarked on a project to draw every London borough in minute detail. Her first instalment shows Westminster. The map is replete with song references, trivia and personal observations, in a manner similar to the maps of Stephen Walter.
Jojo tells us:
Each map takes well over 100 hours, so I should have them all done in about 4 years (by which time I’m sure I’ll want to start again…). The aim in the end is to stick them all together to form a new mega-map of the city as a whole, which reflects the characteristics of the individual boroughs.
As if that were not ambitious enough, she’s also working on a ‘people’s map of the British Isles, and is looking for ‘buildings, fields, trees, people, animals, kebab shops, clubs, pubs, walks, shops, rivers, museums, roads and launderettes that you think should be on there’.
Prints of Jojo’s maps and other works can be purchased from her site.
