ICE: Canary Wharf's Ice Sculpting Festival is always popular, mixing live chainsaw carving by international artists, fabulous ice creations and have-a-go sessions. Here's our preview. It starts on Friday and runs till Sunday night. Free entry, just turn up.

SHORT FILM: London Short Film Festival begins on Friday showing shorts all over town at venues including BFI Southbank, ICA, BAFTA, Curzon Soho and Dalston Rio. Tickets range from free to £10.

MIMEFEST: London International Mime Festival has begun – read our preview – there are five shows to see this weekend. Check out the huge programme which runs till 1 February and book tickets now.

LOCAL HISTORY: Have you got an interesting story to tell about the SE1 area? Join Waterloo Sights & Sounds at Morley Gallery to take part in an oral history recording (free, just turn up, 11am-4pm). Or, you can attend a sound walk around the area to re-acquaint yourself with the undervalued sense of hearing with sound artist Tansy Spinks. Free, prebook, 2pm

SENSORY EXPERIENCE: Touch, taste, smell and feel music with BitterSuite at Rich Mix. Debussy's String Quartet in G will be performed and brought to life in a fully sensory blindfolded experience. Tickets £5, prebook, performances at 7.30 & 8.20pm

SWEENEY TODD: Watch the 2007 Demon Barber of Fleet Street film starring Johnny Depp at Roxy Bar & Screen in Borough. Tickets £4, starts 8pm

MUSEUM MUSIC: Enjoy Middle Eastern, Turkish and Greek live music at Brunel Museum, Rotherhithe with Meltem Trio and Cigdem Aslan. Tickets £12 on the door, £10/£8 concessions advance, starts 9pm

ANTIQUES: Go rummaging for treasure or practise for your appearance on Bargain Hunt at Adams Antiques Fair in the Royal Horticultural Hall in Pimlico. Tickets £4 on the door, under 16s free, open 10am-4.30pm

SNOOKER: The Masters Snooker starts at Alexandra Palace. Watch the best players in the world pot those balls (or find somewhere to play snooker with a mate). Booking until Sunday 19 January. Tickets for afternoon session £15+bkg, all day £25+bkg, sessions at 1pm & 7pm

BLESS: Join Southwark Cathedral in blessing the River Thames from London Bridge. Free, just turn up, 12.30pm
