The Best Gigs To See In London: 28 January-2 February

Tom Du Croz from LondonGigGuide selects his recommended gigs around town this week.

Tuesday 28 January

Black River Wild, The Monarch, Camden

https://soundcloud.com/blackriverwild/dont-run-at-night

This is one of the least-produced tracks I have ever played on the show. What is left is raw, bare and very beautiful. Event Details

Thursday 30 January

Lydia Baylis, Bedroom Bar, Shoreditch

https://soundcloud.com/lydiabaylis/lydia-baylis-life-without-you-radio-stream

This is a great track, with beautiful vocals and excellent production. The gig is being put on by Akira, a London record label dedicated to sniffing out fresh talent. Lydia herself was born in Wales but has lived all over the world since. She released her debut album in 2012 and is due to release more material this year. Free gig. Event Details

Honours, The Lexington, Angel

https://soundcloud.com/honoursband/ready-to-run

In typical Indie style, this band seem unwilling to tell us much about themselves, apart from the fact that there are three of them and they like whisky and cricket. Event Details

Friday 31 January

Double Bill - The Winter Tradition & Run Young Lovers, The Garage, Highbury and Islington

This week's 'Double Bill' is at the Garage in Highbury. £5 (if you book) will get you a night of great indie music including these two bands.  Run Young Lovers are giving away this track free from their website (click here). This is the brand new single from The Winter Tradition. Event details

Scarlett's Roses, The White Lion, Streatham

https://soundcloud.com/scarletts-roses/truth-be-told

Meet Scarlett's Roses, a Pop/Ska band from South London. They've just released their first EP, Bloomin’, and have a new album due out this year. Event Details

Suzy Condrad, Dublin Castle, Camden

https://soundcloud.com/suzy-condrad/fragments-another-live-take

This is Suzy Condrad who does amazing things with a loop pedal. The track above was recorded in a single take and nothing was prerecorded. Event Details

Saint Agnes, Camden BarFly

https://soundcloud.com/saintagnes/old-bone-rattle

These guys recently released their debut EP 'The Good Fight'. Psychedelic Western with a side of teen bitterness — it's a great combination. Event Details

Saturday 1 February

Big Joe Louis & His Blues Kings, Ain't nothing But, Oxford Circus

These guys have been together for 18 years. Big Joe himself was born in Jamaica but came to the UK in the 70s. This guy is a big deal in the blues world and will pull a crowd. Event Details

John Langan Band, The Garage, Highbury and Islington

https://soundcloud.com/thejohnlanganband/demons

Seeing 'The John Langan Band' play live is one of those things that once experienced you can't forget. Their live set is always outstanding and its great to see them play a more mainstream venue like the Garage. Expect a night of manic dancing. Event Details

Sunday 2 February

Pixel Fix, Notting Hill Arts Club

https://soundcloud.com/pixelfixmusic/lake

This is the second track from their self titled EP, which was released in April of last year. Part of a night of live music organised by Communion Records. Event Details

August and After, The Finsbury, Green Lanes

https://soundcloud.com/augustandafter/theorchard

This band have had a great year — I saw them win a battle of the bands competition at Apartment 58 and they also had a residency at Ronnie Scotts. This gig is to launch a new folk night called 'Folk Modern'. Event Details
