A bestiary of sinuous, horned forms is taking shape on the walls of a Shoreditch art gallery. The black and white creatures are the work of Phlegm, a distinctive street artist whose outdoor work you might have seen round the back of the Southbank Centre, or on the old Foundry building near Old Street. His weird species — formed on wood, clay and plaster — are part real, part imaginary, and inspired by the pages of medieval manuscripts and ancient cave paintings.
This is Phlegm's first solo exhibition, and one of the first shows at the new Howard-Griffin Gallery at 189 Shoreditch High Street. We're promised a 'museum-quality' show on a big scale. The work can be seen from 1 February until 4 March 2014. Entrance is free.
