The Zoological Society of London, better known to you and us as London Zoo, undertook its annual stocktake of animals today. Thankfully, all of the tigers were accounted for!
The stocktake is required under the terms of the zoo’s licence and the results of the count are kept on the International Species Information System, where the data is shared to help with international breeding programmes.
For the first time Kumbuka, a silverback western lowland gorilla, was included in the survey as he was recently introduced to the zoo as part of the European breeding programme for endangered species.
