Londonist In Real Life 2013

While this website is at the heart of what we do, we love creating real-life events and experiences where we can meet and entertain our readers. 2013 has been another great year for this:

Exhibition

Bishopsgate Institute's season on Subterranean London in January sparked a wave of amazing creativity from readers when we challenged them to submit artwork inspired by all things underground. The quality of submissions was so high we staged an exhibition of the best at Bishopsgate Institute. You can have a look at some of the pictures that starred in Londonist Underground here.

Random Amble

On Easter Monday in April a bunch of intrepid readers joined Lindsey on a walk around a solution to the Every Tube Line For Just One Stop puzzle, worked out by John Wilkes. The jolly jaunt was enhanced by Londonist foodie Ben Norum bringing a backpack full of colourful spirits along and attempting to mix a 'cocktail' for each stop, using the colours of the lines at the interchange, with extremely mixed yet entertaining results.

Spacetacular!

We put on our very own West End show in January, with Spacetacular! With support from the UK Space Agency, we filled Leicester Square Theatre for three hours of comedy, science and general geekery, all hosted by comedian Helen Keen. All jolly good fun...just don't ask what the London connection was.

Underground

For the first time, Londonist's logo appeared on the Underground, on posters for Estuary at Museum of London Docklands. This, our first media partnership, enabled us to take a bunch of readers to the best private view party we've ever attended, run a Thames-themed quiz at the Cockles and Mussels Late and bring you stories from extraordinary places — visiting the WWII Red Sands Sea Forts and Tilbury Fort. N Quentin Woolf also recorded a podcast from the Museum, talking to exhibition curator, Francis Marshall: listen here.

In Your Ears

In fact, N Quentin Woolf was regularly out and about meeting interesting people in intriguing London locations and bringing the results to your ears via our weekly podcast, Londonist Out Loud, which was was recommended by The Telegraph earlier this year. He's been up the OXO Tower, around Dennis Sever's House, to the Tower of London and in Guildhall Library. He's visited Heathrow Airport's Animal Reception Centre, distilled gin at the Ginstitute, taken the Cable Car and met the Lord Mayor of London at Mansion House. Where will he be in 2014? If you have a suggestion, tweet it @LondonistSound.

Pub Crawls

Our two and a bit year mission to complete an A-Z of pub crawls in London — with pubs voted for by readers — recommenced in January with J for St James's & Mayfair and reached voting for part U for Unusual in December. During 2013 Londonist Matt and scores of readers visited a total of 56 top pubs. While the usual pub crawl visits four fine establishments in an evening, the parts for Peckham & Camberwell, Richmond became Saturday adventures getting through 6 or 7 pubs, whilst T for Thames was an epic trawl through the complete top 10. Now that's commitment.

Look out for further monthly pub crawls in 2014, beginning with part V in late January, as well as the launch of our new pubs feature, which will make it easy to find the best pubs in any part of town.
